Synopsis

On the Other End is a result of an attempt to bring the philosophical problem of ‘Appearance vs Reality’ closer to humanity by relating the idea in the literary rather than philosophical realm. The book does this by taking us through the account of a young man whose goodwill motivated to waste his entire existence pursuing what he was dead certain about. It turned out that he was wrong all along.

If there is any book that faces the harsh truth of life just as truly as it lies, then it is this. The protagonist, Matthew, is bent on chasing his dream—one that he saw only half of, with the other half lying in the hands of his closest friend Bere with whom the dream is pursued.

In their unyielding pursuit of the dream, they gave in to a couple of things they had deemed abominable.

In the long run, fate and nature forced complacency on Bere. He had to quit chasing their dream with Matthew but the latter remained resilient.

At the end of the book, Matthew reaches the destination of his dream as an aged man. He was too tired to reach for his dream at the same time, so he thought to rest a little when the unimaginable happened…

This leaves us as readers to grapple with whether Matthew would consider himself fulfilled if he could pass a comment on his existence. Needless to mention, this narrative would be highly relevant because it cuts across not only literature and philosophy but also through a relatively new psychological problem—goalodicy to be specific.
“On the Other End” seeks to uncover the ultimate truth.
